Judges’ comments: “Great bold cover. Most NZ poetry is all muted, murky tones so this pop of colour is refreshing. I like the modernist typography and chapter headers. A very handsome singular looking poetry book that, in a line-up of NZ poetry, really stands out.”

“Good use of white space gives the poems a quiet, restrained setting. The subtle contrast of heading weights to that of text means they get your attention without shouting. A playful typographic cover design, with a bold fresh use of colour.”

“Clashy, modernist colours. Leans towards the deconstructivism indicated in publication title. However, the internals seem quite bland.”

“The words at play begin on the cover and continue throughout. The rhythm and crisp production qualities of the cover, skilfully controlled use of primary colours (which can so often disappoint) dance an embossed pop off the cover. The paperstock inside all but alleviates ink show through, the point size to leading and structured lines works with measured control.”
