Finalist

Designers: Te Kani Price & Sophie Hooper, Huia Publishers, illustrations by Zak Ātea

Title: The Dream Factory | Te Wheketere Moemoeā
Publisher: Huia Publishers
Format: 215 mm x 280 mm, 32pp, paperback.  Spot UV applied to the byline and masthead for additional interest

Typography:

  • Masthead: Sloke with alternates, True North Rough Dots
  • Body: Gelica light 12.75pt 23.5pt

"The purpose behind the masthead font was to blend the idea of industry and whimsy in a primary and secondary font. The ‘The, Factory’ font has a thick blocklike structure with little dots around it like a cartoon neon sign. Whereas the  ‘Dream’ font has elongated sans serif forms with dreamlike aberrations to the forms to show the wigglyness of dreams and overall tone of the book.

Publisher's Brief
"This book should generate a significant amount of conversation that best reflects Steph’s unique talents as a children’s author and push her to undisputed mainstream acclaim. The role of the illustrations will be to complement with the text whilst also contributing its own unwritten storyline. The book doesn’t have a key protagonist but rather a group of interchanging characters that will help in broadening the demographic to be neither feminine or masculine leaning. The dream machine and overall aesthetic should feel foreign and familiar at the same time – similar to a dream. Things you know but can’t quite place."
